PlayStation Wallet Credit Pays $10 as Stars Winds Down

Sony’s unannounced $10 PlayStation Wallet Credit hits select $70 games as PlayStation Stars heads toward a November 2 shutdown.

Select PlayStation Store games now pay a $10 Wallet Credit after a full-price buy, with no Sony announcement. The credit lands in the PSN Wallet and spends on other Store items. PlayStation Stars still ends on November 2, 2026.

Shoppers first spotted the banners on September 21, 2026, on new $69.99 launches. The Dawnwalker offer is set to vanish on September 29. That is a rebate on specific SKUs, not points on every purchase.

The Credit Hits the Wallet After Full Price

A shopper on the r/playstation board, JannJans, was choosing between Dragon’s Dogma 2 and The Blood of Dawnwalker when a limited-time Wallet Credit line appeared under the vampire RPG. The listing did not print the dollar amount on the product page. The figure showed up at checkout.

Yup. $10 exactly and it showed up immediately after purchase.

JannJans bought both games and still received a single $10 credit, tied to Dawnwalker. Other accounts have described the same instant drop after paying list price for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Star Wars Zero Company, Mortal Shell II, and Halloween: The Game. A UK storefront showed £10 back on a £60 copy of Dawnwalker. The game itself is not $10 off. You pay the tag, then Sony puts store money in the wallet.

HOW THE $10 CREDIT WORKS

  • The trigger: Buy a listed game at the full PlayStation Store price, not a sale markdown on that title.
  • The payout: $10 (or £10 in at least one UK listing) hits the PSN Wallet as soon as the purchase clears.
  • The spend: The credit can be used on other PS Store items, including games, add-ons, and catalog deals.
  • The clock: Dawnwalker’s banner reads offer ends September 29, 2026, 7:59 p.m., and other listings also carry an end date.

Several shoppers said the store copy is vague until the cart. One pre-order screen even displayed a locked-in $10 line and then never delivered the funds. Sony has not published rules for retries, stacking, or what happens if you refund the game.

November 2 Is Still the Stars Sunset

Sony spent three years running PlayStation Stars, a phone-app loyalty layer launched in July 2022. Members earned points on Store buys and campaigns, then traded them for wallet funds, games, and digital collectibles. The program never moved onto the PS5 itself. On May 21, 2025, Grace Chen, vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise, said Sony was winding down PlayStation Stars after studying which activities players actually used.

Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.

The legal terms are blunter. PlayStation Stars is fully discontinuing on November 2, 2026. New sign-ups stopped on May 21, 2025. Points and collectibles could be earned only through July 23, 2025, 7:59 a.m. PT. Current members can still redeem whatever has not expired, and display cases stay reachable until that November date. Points earned on or after October 24, 2024, lapse at the end of the month plus 12 months, so some balances will die before the program does.

THE STARS SHUTDOWN CLOCK

  1. July 2022: PlayStation Stars launches as an app-only points and collectibles program.
  2. May 21, 2025: Sony stops new members and says it will refocus loyalty work.
  3. July 23, 2025: Last day to earn points, collectibles, or complete campaigns.
  4. February 2026: A wishlistable Wallet Credits app listing appears on the PS Store with no public explanation.
  5. September 21, 2026: Shoppers report an instant $10 Wallet Credit on select new games.
  6. September 29, 2026: The Blood of Dawnwalker credit offer is set to end at 7:59 p.m.
  7. November 2, 2026: PlayStation Stars fully ends; leftover points that have not expired can be redeemed until then.

Sixteen months after that May 21, 2025 post, the first public loyalty-style mechanic is this unannounced coupon. Sony has not called Wallet Credit the Stars successor. The February app listing sat in an “announced” state and could be wishlisted, which is how a Store placeholder behaves, not how a finished rewards catalog launches.

$10 Versus the Old Points Math

On a qualifying purchase, Stars paid 10 points per $1 spent, and only PlayStation Plus subscribers earned those purchase points. The catalog’s common cash-out was 1,250 points for $5 of wallet funds, which is $5 back after $125 of Store spend, a 4% rate if you actually redeemed. Campaigns could add a little. Wallet top-ups, gift cards, and, from March 1, 2025, subscription payments did not count. The $10 credit on a single listed game pays more, in one hit, than months of that drip. It also pays only if you buy the SKUs Sony (or the publisher) put on the poster, and only while the banner is up.

LOYALTY PAYOUTS COMPARED

Program How you earn What you get Limit
PlayStation Wallet Credit Buy a listed new game at full Store price $10 (or £10) in wallet funds, instantly Select titles, timed banners, not a markdown on that game
PlayStation Stars (legacy) 10 points per $1 on eligible Store buys with PlayStation Plus, plus campaigns $5 wallet funds for 1,250 points Earn closed July 23, 2025; program ends November 2, 2026
Xbox Rewards (Ultimate) Play quests and shop the Store up to $100 per year in store value from play, plus extra points for shopping Tied to Game Pass Ultimate and Microsoft Rewards terms

Nintendo used to pay a cleaner rebate: 5% of an eligible digital buy as Gold Points, so a $59.99 game returned 300 points, worth $3.00 toward a later eShop order. That digital earn stopped on March 25, 2025. Sony’s May shutdown and Nintendo’s March cutoff left Xbox as the console store still advertising an always-on play-and-shop ladder. A $10 chit on an $80 launch is real money. Against a $70-$80 sticker that has become normal for new releases, it is also a small slice of the price, not a program you climb by showing up every week.

Which New Games Carry the Credit?

The titles attached to the banners are not catalog filler. They are this month’s full-price launches, the games that need day-one digital volume while reviews and word of mouth are still forming. The Blood of Dawnwalker on PlayStation shipped on September 3, 2026, at $69.99 for Standard and $79.99 for Eclipse, with the Eclipse extras also sold as a $14.99 add-on. Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword followed on September 4, 2026, at $69.99, with Deluxe at $79.99 and Premium Deluxe at $89.99.

GAMES SPOTTED WITH THE OFFER

  • The Blood of Dawnwalker: Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco, $69.99 Standard / $79.99 Eclipse, offer ends September 29, 2026, 7:59 p.m.
  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword: Capcom, $69.99 and higher editions, same $10 credit reports.
  • Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy: listed with the Wallet Credit line on multiple Store accounts.
  • Star Wars Zero Company: same limited-time credit copy as the RPGs above.
  • Mortal Shell II and Halloween: The Game: named by shoppers seeing the same $10 drop.

Sony has not published an eligible-title list, so that roster is only what people have seen on their own storefronts. The pattern is still clear. Dragon’s Dogma 2 sat next to Dawnwalker in JannJans’s cart and did not carry the bonus. The credit is being aimed at games that need a push this window, not at the whole Store.

A Second Purchase, Paid With Sony’s Own Credit

Because the $10 cannot leave the PlayStation Store, the rebate is also a nudge toward a second basket. Ten dollars will not buy another $69.99 game. It will cover most of Dawnwalker’s $14.99 Eclipse add-on, or a sale indie, or a chunk of a deluxe upgrade. The list price on the first game never moves, so the screenshot, the chart, and the “$70 game” talking point stay intact. The discount shows up later, inside Sony’s wallet, where it can only come back as more Store spend.

Stars did something slower with the same currency. You earned a thin slice on many buys, then cashed out $5 or $20 of wallet funds after a long grind, and only if you had PlayStation Plus and remembered to open the app. Wallet Credit skips the grind and the app. It also skips everyone who is buying last year’s game, a physical disc, or a title that is not on the poster. The people who used to collect points on ordinary Store spend are not in this picture. The people launching a $69.99 digital SKU this month are.

That is why the February placeholder matters. A dedicated Wallet Credits app is a strange way to sell PSN funds Sony already sells at checkout. It is a natural home for a running tab of store rebates, the kind of ledger Stars used to be, except the earn rule is “buy this game” rather than “keep spending.” Until Sony says otherwise, the live behavior is a promotion with an end date, sitting on top of a loyalty program that is already in runoff.

The Banner Does Not Appear for Every Account

The rollout is messy enough that two people on the same night can see different stores. Some US accounts show the Dawnwalker credit. Others, including testers who checked US, Canada, and India logins, saw nothing. UK pages have shown £10. India-based shoppers said the banners had not landed there as of September 22, 2026. Testers in Brazil and some UK logins also came up empty. Euro-region copy of the same offer has been reported on some accounts and denied on others. Sony has not named countries, a start date, or a global switch.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The amount: Shoppers who completed a qualifying buy report a flat $10 in the US and £10 in at least one UK checkout.
  • The timing: Credit appears right after purchase, not as a delayed Stars-style catalog redeem.
  • The window: Dawnwalker’s Store line names September 29, 2026, 7:59 p.m. as the end of that offer.
  • The silence: As of September 22, 2026, Sony and PlayStation have not posted terms, a FAQ, or a newsroom note.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • Who pays: No filing or store copy says whether Sony, the publisher, or both fund the $10.
  • The $10’s own expiry: Wallet funds usually sit until spent, but Sony has not said whether this credit is ordinary wallet money or a tagged promo balance.
  • Caps and stacking: It is unclear if you can collect more than one $10 by buying several listed games, or if refunds claw the credit back.
  • A real program: The February app listing and the September banners may be a test, a short campaign, or the skeleton of a successor. Sony has not said which.

Members who still hold Stars points can redeem them through November 2, 2026, if those points have not already expired. The $10 banners on Dawnwalker are set to come down on September 29. Sony has not said what, if anything, replaces either date.
