Percy Jackson Hits No. 3 on Netflix After Disney’s Loan
Disney licensed Percy Jackson to Netflix for three months before Season 3. The Disney+ original is already No. 3 worldwide on the rival.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians sits at No. 3 on Netflix’s worldwide TV chart, six days after Disney licensed the first two seasons for a three-month window. Season 3 still belongs to Disney+, with a premiere date of November 20, 2026.
The loan is doing what Disney paid for. It is also the clearest recent sign that a Disney+ original finds a larger crowd on the service Disney spent years trying to leave.
Percy Jackson Is No. 3 on Netflix Worldwide
FlixPatrol’s worldwide Netflix TV ranking for October 10, 2026 puts the series third, with 408 points. It trails Below at 874 and East of Eden at 752. Mayor of Kingstown, a Paramount+ drama that is also sitting on Netflix, is ninth at 163.
That worldwide slot is stronger than the U.S. list from earlier in the week. On October 8, FlixPatrol had Percy Jackson ninth among TV shows in the United States. Daily charts earlier in the week had it as high as second. Country-by-country Netflix ranks show the same pattern: a library title that arrived on October 4 and then held a Top 10 place instead of bouncing off after one night.
DISNEY TITLES ON NETFLIX, OCT. 10
| Title | Chart | Rank | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Percy Jackson and the Olympians | TV | 3 | 408 |
| Ice Age | Movies | 2 | 575 |
| Ice Age: Collision Course | Movies | 4 | 380 |
| Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs | Movies | 5 | 312 |
| Ice Age: The Meltdown | Movies | 6 | 279 |
| Ice Age: Continental Drift | Movies | 9 | 197 |
The movie half of the same deal is louder than the TV half. All five Ice Age films Disney licensed for the window are inside Netflix’s worldwide movie Top 10 on that date, with the 2002 original in second, behind Doing Life.
Disney Sold Netflix a Three-Month Sample
Disney Entertainment and Netflix struck a nonexclusive licensing agreement announced on October 2, 2026. Seasons 1 and 2 of Percy Jackson became available worldwide on October 4. The window is three months. Listings still carry a limited-time warning, and the seasons remain streaming on Netflix and Disney Plus at the same time, with Hulu also keeping the show.
Season 3 is not part of the license. It premieres on Disney+ on November 20, 47 days after the Netflix add. If the three-month clock runs from October 4, the sample comes off around January 4, 2027. For 45 days after the new season starts, Netflix can still sell the catch-up while Disney+ sells the continuation.
THE PERCY JACKSON WINDOW
- October 4, 2026: Seasons 1 and 2 arrive on Netflix worldwide for three months, and the five Ice Age films arrive on the same day.
- November 20, 2026: Season 3 premieres on Disney+ only, adapting The Titan’s Curse.
- January 4, 2027: The promotional window is due to end, leaving Disney+ as the sole streaming home again.
- February 5, 2027: Ice Age: Boiling Point is scheduled to open in theaters, the other product this loan is meant to advertise.
Netflix treated the arrival as a launch, not a quiet library dump. The company posted a trailer-style clip on October 4 with a line that sounds like a series title card.

“Earthshaker. Stormbringer. Son of Poseidon. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is now on Netflix,” the official account wrote. Local Netflix accounts kept pushing the show days later. Viewers comparing apps have said the Netflix encode looks sharper than the Disney+ copy, and that episode titles are stripped on Netflix. Those are small tells of a transfer built for bingeing, not for catalog browsing.
Iger Once Compared This to Selling Nukes
In August 2017, Disney said it would stop sending new movies to Netflix starting in 2019 and build its own service. Disney+ launched on November 12, 2019. The pitch was simple: keep the stories at home, and make people pay Disney for them.
Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, later described the old Netflix licenses in harsher terms. On the Sway podcast in January 2022, he said the studio had been feeding a competitor that then spent the money on its own shows.
I woke up one day and thought, we are basically selling nuclear weapons technology to a third-world country, and now they are using it against us.
Bob Iger, CEO, The Walt Disney Company, on Sway
He eased off that line as Disney’s own streaming math got harder. On a May 2024 earnings call, Iger said exclusivity “definitely does have some value,” then added that licenses to other streamers “create more traction, more awareness.” In November 2023 he still drew a fence around what he called core brands, saying he would not license Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars “just to basically chase bucks.”
Percy Jackson is a Disney+ original, not a Marvel film, so it sits on the permitted side of that fence. The same 2026 agreement also lists Pixar’s Soul and Elio, plus Raya and the Last Dragon, for Netflix in early 2027. That is a narrower crack than a Star Wars dump. It is still a long walk from 2019.
Five Ice Age Movies Hit the Same Chart
Percy Jackson is the headline because it is a current series with a season in the oven. The Ice Age package shows the loan is a system, not a one-off favor to demigod fans.
All five 20th Century films, Ice Age (2002), The Meltdown (2006), Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Continental Drift (2012), and Collision Course (2016), started on Netflix on October 4 for the same three-month span. They are there to warm up Ice Age: Boiling Point, due in theaters on February 5, 2027. On October 10 they occupied five of Netflix’s ten worldwide movie slots.
OTHER TITLES IN THE SAME AGREEMENT
- Will Trent: Seasons 1 through 4 arrive globally on November 3, 2026, ahead of Season 5 on ABC in early 2027, on a multiyear term.
- Shifting Gears: Seasons 1 and 2 hit Netflix in the U.S. on December 1, 2026, ahead of Season 3 on ABC on January 7, 2027.
- Tracker: Seasons 1 through 3 go to Netflix outside the U.S. on February 26, 2027.
- Library series: Felicity, Revenge, Army Wives, Fresh Off the Boat, and This Is Us (international) fill in the rest of the slate.
Grey’s Anatomy, Arrested Development, Scandal, and Black-ish were already on Netflix under older Disney licenses and stay there. The new batch is different because it is timed to a next episode, a next season, or a next movie. Netflix gets completed story. Disney keeps the unfinished one.
Who the Netflix Window Is Built For
Disney’s own launch numbers already said Percy Jackson could draw a crowd on home turf. The company said the premiere episode reached 13.3 million views on Disney+ and Hulu in the first six days, then 26.2 million views in the first three weeks, with a view counted as hours watched divided by runtime. Nielsen logged 572 million minutes for the first two episodes in the U.S. premiere week, fourth among streaming originals, with about 33 percent of that audience aged 18 to 34. A later Nielsen week put about 25 percent of viewers under 17.
Those figures came from people who already had Disney+ or Hulu. The Netflix window is aimed at the ones who did not.
THE REACH DISNEY IS RENTING
- Netflix scale: More than 325 million paid memberships, the milestone Netflix posted at the end of 2025.
- Home-service launch: 26.2 million views for the premiere episode in three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu.
- The gap to Season 3: 47 days from the Netflix add on October 4 to the Disney+ premiere on November 20.
- The overlap: About 45 days when Season 3 is live on Disney+ and Seasons 1 and 2 are still on Netflix.
The conversion target is a household that already opens Netflix every night and has never paid for Disney+. The first two seasons are the sample. Season 3 is the product that sample is supposed to sell. Some of those households are saying as much in public: they skipped the show because the family did not have Disney+, and they started it on Netflix because it showed up there in time for The Titan’s Curse.
Whether they buy the new season is the part of the bet that has not come due. Netflix still gets the completed hours either way.
Season 3 Stays on Disney+ Starting Nov. 20
Season 3 adapts The Titan’s Curse, Rick Riordan’s third novel, and it is the first time that book has been filmed. The 2010 and 2013 movies stopped after The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. Walker Scobell returns as Percy Jackson, with Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. Scobell has called the new run the show’s darkest season yet.
Disney+ will release eight weekly Season 3 episodes, starting Friday, November 20, 2026, with the run listed through January 1, 2027. There is no announced plan for those episodes to appear on Netflix. Seasons 1 and 2 each had eight episodes as well, from December 19, 2023 to January 30, 2024, then December 10, 2025 to January 21, 2026.
The calendar is the mechanism. On November 20, anyone who binged both seasons on Netflix hits a wall. The next chapter is on a different app, and the sample they just finished is still sitting in the Netflix row for another 45 days, which is long enough to remind them the story exists and short enough that the reminder points at Disney+.
That is the upside Disney bought. The downside is sitting on the same chart: a Disney+ original is a Netflix hit because Netflix is where the audience already was.
