How to Say Goodbye with a Pizza: Pizza Hut’s New Valentine’s Day Promotion

Pizza

Pizza Hut, the popular pizza chain owned by Yum Brands, has come up with a novel way to help people end their relationships before Valentine’s Day. The company is offering a limited number of free pizzas, dubbed “Goodbye Pies,” to those who want to break up with their partners in a sweet yet spicy way.

What are Goodbye Pies?

Goodbye, Pies is a new menu item that features Pizza Hut’s Hot Honey pizza, a pepperoni pizza topped with a sauce made from honey and red chili peppers. The pizza comes in a custom box that has a space for the sender to write the recipient’s name and a message saying that they no longer want to be together.

Pizza Hut says that the Goodbye Pies are meant to deliver spicy news most sweetly for Valentine’s Day and to introduce the new Hot Honey pizza to customers. The company claims that the Hot Honey pizza is a perfect blend of sweetness and heat and that it is also available on chicken wings.

How do I get a goodbye pie?

Pizza Hut is giving away 11 Goodbye Pies per day from Feb. 6 to Feb. 14 in three cities that it says are notorious for heartbreaks: New York, Chicago, and Miami. Those who want to send a Goodbye Pie to their soon-to-be ex can visit the Goodbye Pies website and submit the address of the person they want to send the pizza to. Pizza Hut will then deliver the pizza to the selected addresses while supplies last.

Those who are not in the three main cities can also try to get a break-up text and a gift card from Pizza Hut by entering their phone number on the website. Pizza Hut will send a text message to the person they want to break up with and a gift card that can be redeemed for a free Hot Honey pizza at a nearby location. The company is offering 55 gift cards per day at participating Pizza Hut locations nationwide.

Why Goodbye Pies?

Pizza Hut says that it launched the Goodbye Pies promotion based on some statistics that show that the week before Valentine’s Day is the most common time for breakups. According to government poll data cited by the company, 45% of respondents believe that it is best to complete one’s breakup before the holiday, and Tuesday before Valentine’s Day is the day of the year when most breakups occur.

Pizza Hut also says that it wants to help people avoid the awkward break-up conversation and make it easier for them to move on. The company says that it hopes that the Goodbye Pies will bring some comfort and joy to those who are going through a tough time and that it encourages people to share their break-up stories on social media using the hashtag #GoodbyePies.
