Whatsapp Banned 3 Million Accounts In June/July, Here Is Why

In a recent sharing of WhatsApp compliance report, it was revealed that 3,027,000 accounts of WhatsApp users have been banned.

The compliance report is in accordance with the IT Rules 2021 which came into effect, on May 6, that has asked digital platforms with over 5 million users to publish compliance reports every month and highlighting the kinds of complaints received and the actions are taken to address them.

This ban occurred in the month of June-July, from June 16th to July 31st. This was based on 594 grievance reports that it received during this period. Out of the total count of 594, 137 were for account support, 316 were for a ban appeal, 45 were for other kinds of support, 64 were for product support and 22 were for safety-related concerns.

The report highlighted that the ‘Account Actioned’ category meant that some remedial measures were taken on the basis of the report which included either banning an account or restoring a previously banned account based on a complaint.

WhatsApp, in its report, revealed that most account suspensions or terminations occur due to the use of automated or bulk messaging or spamming other users. WhatsApp bans over 8 million accounts each month due to prevent such abuse of the platform.

So, are you at risk of getting banned by WhatsApp?

As per an article by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp can also ban your account if you create multiple groups with people who don’t have your phone number saved in their address book. It can also ban your account if you send too many messages to people who don’t have your phone number saved in their address book.
