Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry reported on Monday morning that India had added 38,164 new COVID-19 cases and 499 deaths in the last 24 hours. To far, about 3.11 crore coronavirus infections have been reported in the country, with 4.14 lakh deaths.

Unlock Process To Begin In Odisha: Look At What May Open, What May Not After 16th July

Since daily COVID-19 infections in Odisha are dropping, the state government may grant further exemptions in the next two days until the partial lockdown ends on July 16. (6 am).

While the Covid infection rate has decreased in the majority of districts across the state, the situation in many coastal districts, particularly Khordha, Cuttack, and Puri, remains concerning.

All eyes are now on the State government’s next action, which will determine whether the lockdown limitations will be lifted or maintained by splitting the districts into the current Category-A and Category-B categories based on their test positivity rates (TPR).

According to sources, the TPR is less than 5% in 26 districts. Six to seven of the ten districts in Category-B have improved their Covid position.

The government is expected to come out with a new plan for the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, as everyday positive cases in these two cities remain unsatisfactory.

Due to the heavy caseload in the State, educational institutions, temples, and places of worship may remain closed. From July 16, social, cultural, and political gatherings may be prohibited.

Malls, parlours, spas, salons, gyms, and swimming pools, according to sources, may be allowed to operate under tight Covid standards.

Bus services, which are currently only permitted between Category-A districts, may be extended to all of the State’s districts.

Meanwhile, other health experts believe that the limits in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Balasore should be maintained. They also support weekend closures and night curfews.

“Over the last few days, the infection rate in the state has decreased. But we must not become comfortable; instead, we must maintain track of those entering the state from other Covid-ravaged states,” Mohanty warned.

Pregnant Women Now Eligible For COVID Vaccine, CoWIN Registration, Walk-In Allowed

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) today approved the vaccination of pregnant women against COVID-19, based on recommendations from the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI). The judgment allows pregnant women to make an informed decision about whether or not to have the COVID vaccine. All States/UTs have been notified of the decision, which will be implemented as part of the ongoing National COVID Vaccination Program.

The National COVID Vaccination Program in India integrates advice from world-renowned specialists in vaccination, public health, disease management, and information technology. The policy prioritizes building the country’s healthcare system by protecting the experts, health and frontline workers, manning it, as well as the most vulnerable population groups, based on scientific and epidemiological evidence. Until now, all categories were eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, with the exception of pregnant women. In the world’s largest vaccination drive, it has now been expanded to include pregnant women.

COVID-19 infection during pregnancy has been demonstrated in studies to cause rapid worsening of health in pregnant women, increasing their risk of serious disorders and perhaps affecting the foetus. Domain expertise experts looked into the topic based on evidence showing pregnant women are at a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19 infection than non-pregnant women if they get infected. Furthermore, pregnant women infected with COVID-19 have a higher risk of preterm birth and other negative pregnancy outcomes, including a higher risk of neonatal morbidity. Pre-existing co-morbidities, advanced maternal age, and a high body mass index have also been identified as risk factors for severe COVID-19 in pregnancy, according to the experts.

Pregnant women should be vaccinated, according to the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI). It has also been unanimously recommended by the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC). The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also held a national consultation on COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant women in order to reach a consensus on COVID vaccination for pregnant women. The consultation unanimously endorsed NTAGI’s suggestion that pregnant women be vaccinated. Professional organisations such as FOGSI, state government representatives, CSOs, NGOs, Development Partner agencies, technical experts, and others participated in the consultation.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has accepted these recommendations and developed an Operational Guideline for the vaccination of pregnant women, as well as a counselling kit for medical officers and FLWs and IEC materials for the general public, in order to equip states and UTs to carry out the vaccination of pregnant women. Pregnant women who choose to get vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccinations available in the country can be vaccinated at any point during their pregnancy at the nearest Government or Private COVID-19 Vaccination Center (CVC) after registering on CoWIN or by walking-in-registration. The COVID-19 vaccination procedures and modalities, such as registration, certificate production following vaccination, and so on, will be the same as they are for any beneficiary over the age of 18 who are part of the National COVID Vaccination Program.

Zydus Cadila Seeks Approval For Emergency Use Of COVID Vaccine For 12 Years & Above

Zydus Cadila, an Indian pharmaceutical company, has applied to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the launch of their DNA vaccine for children aged 12 and up.

It was also mentioned that the vaccine had completed the third phase of the experiment.

The company announced that it has submitted to the country’s drug regulator for emergency use permission of its COVID-19 vaccine, with ambitions to produce up to 120 million doses per year.

Although the number of cases in India has decreased since a disastrous high in April and May, scientists have warned of a third wave and emphasised that universal vaccination remains one of the best ways to combat the pandemic.

After Moderna, AstraZeneca, and partner Serum Institute of India’s Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, and Russia’s Gamaleya Institute’s Sputnik V, the COVID vaccine produced by Zydus – ZyCoV-D – would become the sixth vaccine approved for use in India.

ZyCoV-D was found to be safe and effective in a late-stage experiment involving more than 28,000 volunteers from around the country, including about 1,000 participants aged 12 to 18, according to Zydus.

The research was conducted “at the peak of COVID-19’s second wave in India, reaffirming the vaccine’s efficacy against novel mutant strains, particularly the Delta variant,” according to Zydus.

Govt. Gives Green Signal To Cipla For The Import Of Moderna Vaccine In India

The government today approved the use of the US-made Moderna vaccine as the country’s fourth emergency vaccination.

Cipla, a Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company, has been granted permission to import Moderna’s Covid vaccine for limited emergency use in India, where Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Serum Institute of India’s Covishield were previously used. Sputnik, a Russian satellite, was also certified lately.

The specifics of a rollout strategy have yet to be revealed. It’s unclear how many dosages and when they’ll be available in India. According to sources, Cipla is only interested in collecting donated vaccines for the time being; commercial deals are still being finalized.

Moderna is the most effective of the four, with a 94% effectiveness rating, compared to 91% for Sputnik, 78% for Covaxin, and 74% for Covishield.

“I am glad to inform you that Moderna’s application, which was submitted through their Indian partner Cipla, has been approved. This opens the door to the vaccine being imported in the not-too-distant future. There will be further formalities to follow. Govt Issues Guidelines for Vaccination of Pregnant Women- How Safe Are They?

The ministry has recently announced that the Covid-19 vaccination is safe for pregnant women. Following this, the Union health ministry has issued fresh guidelines for administering the Covid vaccination to pregnant women and said that pregnancy does not increase the risk of infection.

“Most pregnant women will be asymptomatic or have a mild disease, but their health may deteriorate rapidly and that might affect the foetus too. It is important that they take all precautions to protect themselves from acquiring Covid-19, including taking vaccination against Covid-19. It is therefore advised that a pregnant woman should take Covid-19 vaccines,” the health ministry said in a statement on Monday.

 

Safety of Covid-19 vaccines for pregnant women

Like any medicine, a vaccine may have side effects which are normally mild. After getting the vaccine injection, she can get a mild fever, pain at the injection site or feel unwell for 1-3 days. The long-term adverse effects and safety of the vaccine for foetus and child are not established yet. Very rarely (one in 100,000-500,000), pregnant women may experience some of the following symptoms within 20 days after getting the Covid-19 vaccination which may require immediate attention.

 

Recovery rate of Covid-19 positive mothers

Currently, the recovery rate of pregnant woman is 90% without hospitalization. However, pregnant women with underlying medical conditions e.g, high blood pressure, obesity, age over 35 years are at a higher risk of severe illness due to Covid-19.

 

Health of newborns of Covid-19 positive mothers

The ministry has confirmed that more than 95 per cent of newborns of Covid-19 positive mothers have been in good condition at birth. In some cases, Covid-19 infections in pregnancy may increase the possibility of premature delivery; the baby’s weight might be less than 2.5kg and in rare situations and might die before birth.

 

Who are the vulnerable group?

“Women older than 35 years of age, obese women, having a pre-existing illness such as diabetes or high blood pressure, having a history of clotting in the limbs are at a higher risk of developing complications after Covid-19 infection. In case a woman has been infected with Covid-19 during the current pregnancy, then she should be vaccinated soon after the delivery,” the ministry said.

 

How to register?

The Union health ministry advised all pregnant women to register themselves on the Co-WIN portal or get themselves registered on-site at the Covid-19 vaccination centre.

Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das urges the Centre to vaccine ratio policy

Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das today urged the Centre to revise the Government and Private Hospital vaccine allocation ratio to 95:5 instead of the 75:25 ratio. As per the revised guidelines For the implementation of the covid vaccine 25% of the monthly production of vaccines by domestic manufacturers can be directly bought by Private Hospitals.

However, to date, only seven private hospitals in Odisha have been able to procure vaccines directly from the manufacturers.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) PK Mohapatra, in a letter to the Union Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on June 14, had stated that the presence of Private Hospitals in Odisha is very low and limited to only about 5% of the total health care sector in the State. Hence it is apprehended that as per the existing guidelines, Odisha will lose out on its proportionate share of 25 per cent allocation of vaccines to the private sector.

Das, in a letter to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, reiterated the above request while asserting that the Health Department of Odisha has been vaccinating around 3 lakh persons daily starting from June 21 to  the target of 100 per cent vaccination in the State.

Pregnant Women Can Be Vaccinated Against COVID-19, Says Centre

Pregnant women can be vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Union Health Ministry.

“The Ministry of Health has granted instructions that the vaccination can be given to the pregnant lady,” Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava stated during a press briefing on behalf of the Union Health Ministry.

“The vaccine is beneficial to pregnant women and should be administered,” Dr. Bhargava stated.

According to Dr. Bhargava, the decision to give COVID-19 vaccines to youngsters is still up in the air until further evidence is released.

“At the time, just one country administers vaccines to children. It’s still unclear whether extremely young children will ever require vaccinations. We would not be able to vaccinate children in huge numbers until we have more data on child vaccination “The director of the ICMR stated.

“However, we have begun a study including children aged 2 to 18 years old, and we expect to have a result by September,” he continued.

Dr. SK Singh, Director of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), said during the conference that the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 coronavirus has been found in 48 cases across the country so far.

According to Dr. Singh, “Eight states are significant since they include more than half of the variants of concern. Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana, and West Bengal are the states in question.”

“Covidshield and Covaxin work against all SARS CoV 2 types, including alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. Delta Plus has a presence in 12 different countries. In India, a total of 48 instances have been detected, however they are all extremely localised “Regarding the Delta Plus variation of COVID-19, Dr. Bhargava stated.

Both COVID-19 Doses, RTPCR Negative Report Mandatory For Tourists Visiting Goa
