Upendra Kumar Pahadsingh, a former Odia newsreader for All India Radio, passed away on Tuesday.
He died at 4 p.m. today at Delhi’s Max Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
“After developing hypoglycemia and his sugar level dropping dramatically, my father was treated in the ICU of Max Hospital for more than a month. “He acquired various difficulties while undergoing therapy, which deteriorated his health,” his son Dilip Pahadsingh said.
For lakhs of admirers of Odisha’s voice, who had been suffering from age-related ailments for the past few years, the news came as a shock. He was in his late 80s and lived with his wife at AIR residential apartments in Delhi.
For decades, the voice dominated Odia news on radio, with listeners glued to their radio sets at 7.15 a.m. and 7.15 p.m. every day to hear the priceless words “Akashbani, khabar padhuchhanti Upendra Pahadsingh.”
The mesmerizing voice has ceased to exist.
