With the Odisha government publishing new Covid-19 rules for August on Saturday, rumours about the reopening of schools for Classes I to VIII pupils are picking up steam in the state.

While announcing the rules for this month, Special Relief Commission Pradeep Jena stated that the School and Mass Education department has entire authority to decide whether or not to reopen schools at this time.

In response to the SRC statement, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash stated today, “The instructions were published yesterday.” Schools for students in grades 10 and 12 have already begun, while offline classes for children in grades 9 will begin from from August 16.”

“Discussions are underway to reopen schools for kids in grades I through 8. Dash informed reporters that a decision on the matter will be made soon.

Notably, the Odisha government reopened schools for classes 10 and 12 on July 26 after reviewing the state’s Covid-19 situation.

To avoid the spread of Covid-19, the schools were opened rigorously in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) provided by the State School and Mass Education Department.
