A dejected Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter shortly after India’s women’s hockey team was defeated by Great Britain in the bronze medal match at the current Tokyo Olympics. The game ended in a 5-4 loss for India.
Shah Rukh Khan, who had been following the team’s progress throughout the competition, tweeted, “Heartbreaking!!! But these are all reasons to keep our heads held high. Congratulations to the Indian Women’s Hockey Team. Everyone in India was inspired by you. That is a success in and of itself.”
Heartbreak!!! But all reasons to hold our heads high. Well played Indian Women’s Hockey Team. You all inspired everyone in India. That itself is a victory.

Of course, Shah Rukh is most known for his role as coach Kabir Khan in the 2007 sports drama Chak De! India, in which he led an underdog women’s hockey team to victory. Previously, when the team advanced to the semi-finals, Shah Rukh tweeted, repeating coach Sjoerd Marijne’s statement regarding the team’s success, “Haan haan no issue. Bring some gold with you on your way back….for a billion family members. This year, Dhanteras falls on November 2nd. From: Kabir Khan, ex-coach,” alluding to his part in the Bollywood film Chak De! India.”
After the Indian men’s hockey team’s bronze medal win earlier this week, Khan wrote, “Wow!! Indian Men’s Hockey Team Congratulations. Resilience and skill at its peak. What an exciting match.”
Chak De! India, Shimit Amin’s film India was a critical and economic triumph. It was an unusual departure from the typical romance parts that Shah Rukh was renowned for performing on film. Salim-title Sulaiman’s tune, sung by Sukhwinder Singh, became an unofficial anthem for Indian sports.
Shah Rukh was most recently seen in Anand L Rai’s 2018 film Zero. He will make his acting debut in the yet-to-be-announced Pathan, and he has a slew of other projects in the works.
