Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced the prize money for Olympic medalists who will be competing in the Tokyo Olympics starting July 23.
At a virtual ceremony on Thursday, he had declared that gold medal winners would get a massive cash prize of Rs 6 crore. Similarly, for silver and bronze medallists, the cash award would be Rs 4 crore and Rs 2.25 crore respectively.
He had also added that all participants from the state would be given a sum of Rs 15 lakh to cover the preparation costs.
The CM, as well as the senior officers of the Odisha Government along with officials of the Sports and Youth Services Department, congratulated World Champion Para Shuttler Pramod Bhagat, ace Sprinter Dutee Chand, and hockey players Namita Toppo, Deep Grace Ekka, Amit Rohidas, and Birendra Lakra who have proudly represented Odisha at the grand sports event. He even encouraged them to perform to the best of their abilities.
In an official statement Patnaik has mentioned, “For every athlete, Olympics is the biggest dream, and you all have turned role models for the youth. You have brought pride to your family and the state. With your utmost determination, hard work and discipline, you will definitely win medals.”
The Tokyo Olympics is an upcoming international multi-sport event that will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan.
