The Southwest monsoon is expected to knock on the doors of Kerala on Thursday, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and given the favourable circumstances for its arrival, which has previously been announced that it was postponed by some days.

Isolated parts of Northeast India are expected to witness fairly widespread to widespread rains and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall from June 8 to June 10.

South Peninsular India and the Islands, as well as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East, Central, and West India are going to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms with isolated heavy rains are expected.

In its early morning forecast, the IMD predicted that the weather in the rest of the country would be dry.

According to the inputs shared about the monsoon by the weather office, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon continues to pass through 5 degrees north and 72 degrees east.

The IMD also stated, “Conditions are favourable for the commencement of the southwest monsoon across Kerala today, June 3, 2021.”

According to the weather office’s report, the Western Disturbance remains a trough in the mid and upper troposphere westerlies, with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level and its axis roughly along longitude 80 degrees east to the north of latitude 25 degrees north.

According to the weather office, the trough with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level, roughly from longitude 90 degrees east to the north of latitude 22 degrees north, is still present.

The cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and its environs extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, says IMD.

“At 0.9 km above mean sea level, the trough from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to the cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh and its neighborhood continues,” says IMD.

According to the weather office, cyclonic circulation exists between 3.1 and 4.5 km above mean sea level across the east central Arabian Sea and its environment.
