On Saturday, children at SOA Community Radio step into the shoes of radio jockeys for the day, asking questions and participating in conversations as part of a celebration of World Children’s Day.
Students from Guidance English Medium School in the city, visibly excited at the opportunity, asked panelists questions, discussed their experiences in school with online and off-line classes, and expressed their opinions on topics such as meditation, healthy living, yoga, and their extended stay at home as schools remained closed in the aftermath of the pandemic.
SOA Community Radio, in conjunction with UNICEF and the Community Radio Association of Odisha, put on the event (CRAO). On this occasion, Ms. Monika Nelson, the Chief of UNICEF Odisha, met with the children and members of the SOA Radio Club.
‘Youth and children have always been a priority for SOA Community Radio. It has taken initiatives to develop new programes to raise awareness about themes such as nutrition, mental health, and education,’ says the report. Officer-in-Charge of SOA Community Radio, Ms. Honey Patnaik, stated.
Ms. Sukanti Rath, a teacher at Guidance English Medium School, said that this was the first time the school’s kids had such an opportunity, and they were thrilled.
Every year on November 20th, World Children’s Day is commemorated with a special topic to raise awareness of children’s rights. This year’s theme was “A better future for every child.”
