by Swati Sahoo

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur unveiled the Fit India smartphone app, a personal trainer-turned-fitness guide, on the occasion of the Fit India Movement’s second anniversary here on Sunday. The app, according to Thakur, was a present from the government to the people of India on National Sports Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of hockey great Major Dhyan Chand.

“The Fit India app is a homage to Major Dhyan Chand, who is an idol to the country’s athletes,” Thakur said during a ceremony at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.

Manpreet Singh, captain of the bronze-medal-winning Tokyo Olympics hockey team, was also in attendance.

“The app is required for athletes to stay healthy, and they are expected to use it religiously. This is an attempt to keep fresh, young India fit since a fit youth can build a great India “He said.

“We don’t place enough emphasis on fitness. We only need to dedicate half an hour of our daily time to exercise. This software is entertaining and free, and anybody may use it to test and track their fitness from anywhere.”

Manpreet, the hockey captain, also endorsed the app.
