This isn’t the first floating ATM from SBI.
The bank launched its first floating cash dispenser in Kerala in 2004. It was installed on a Jhankar yacht owned by the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC).
The ATM was commissioned by the then Deputy Managing Director of Mumbai Corporate Center Ashok K and launched by Kinney. It operated between the Ernakulam and Vaypeyan regions.
The latest installation in Srinagar has received a positive response from netizens on Twitter. However, many complained that SBI ATMs in remote and hard to access areas are out of service most of the time.
A user wrote: “Installation of new ATMs is a good thing, but ATMs is out of service, unable to dispense cash at this moment, Temporarily unavailable or suspended. Those msgs are disgusting. Can @TheOfficialSBI fulfil the cash in all SBI ATM outlets for one day? Can you?”
“Very good. This will attract the passengers coming to Kashmir and Meet their demand of cash,” wrote another.
According to the bank’s website, there are over 60,000 SBI ATMs in India, the largest network in the country.
According to reports, State Bank of India currently has 22,224 branches in the country and a total of 63,906 ATM/CDM with 71,705 BC outlets.
