Prime minister on Friday arrived at Odisha to review meeting and study the impact of cyclone ‘Yaas’ with chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Governor Ganeshi Lal, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan & Pratap Sarangi
During the meeting, Odisha demanded 2 long-term solutions for yearly cyclones affecting Odisha.
“We demanded modern technology-based cyclone resilient electricity system. We also sought long-term measures for the protection of coastal areas” said Odisha SRC after PM’s review meeting.
With the increasing frequency of cyclone every year in Odisha, a stern disaster management policy is advised. Odisha and its government have so far been quite adept in managing these natural calamities but require the support of the centre.
Recently, cyclone ‘Yaas’ wreaked havoc in coastal regions surrounding Odisha and West Bengal with a wind speed of 140-150 km per hour on 26th May. This was preceded by cyclone Amphan and cyclone Fani which had way worse effects on the state.
PM Modi assured that the centre is with Odisha. He is expected to announce relief packages by evening as announced by Union Minister Pratap Sarangi.
