After some reported images of the holy shrine’s Sanctum Santorum went viral on social media platforms once again, tall claims of stringent frisking at the Sri Jagannath temple in Puri fell flat again.
On his Facebook account, a devotee named Abhijit Chandra, who reportedly hails from West Bengal, shared a photo that appears to have been taken inside the main shrine. The holy trinity can be found on the Ratna Singhasan, together with Lord Sudarshan.
According to reports, the devotee who shared the photo on Facebook also tagged a shrine servitor too in his post.
After receiving a report about this post, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) leapt into action, hiring IT professionals to investigate the situation and filed a police case against this post subsequently.
“On May 27, a West Bengal citizen called Abhijit Chandra shared a pic of ‘Ratnabedi’ on his Facebook page with some Bengali captions. After our IT staff analysed the message, we filed a complaint with the Singhadwar Police Station, “said SJTA administrator Jitendra Sahoo (rituals).
He stated that the FB post has hurt devotees’ religious feelings because photography of any kind within the shrine is absolutely banned.
The photo appears to have been taken with a cell phone. But, he said, it would be clear if it was authentic or photo-shopped after a thorough investigation only.
Electronic devices, such as cameras and cell phones, are barred from entering the 12th century shrine.
The new photo showing the temple’s interior premises that has been circulating on social media comes after a string of similar events in recent months, indicating a serious security breach at the shrine.
