Odisha recorded its highest single-day Covid-19 toll ever on Wednesday, with as many as 40 people succumbing to the virus, and 8,399 new cases reported throughout the state in the past 24 hours.
According to the State Covid-19 website, the new fatalities brought the total death toll in the state to 2831. With 11095 fresh recoveries, the total number of recoveries in the state now stands at 69, 2027.
The total number of cases is 782131. In the state, there are now 87,220 active cases.
4741 of the new Covid cases reported came from quarantine, while 3658 came from local contacts.
According to state government data, Khordha district had the highest reported cases (1102), followed by Cuttack (766), and Jajpur (514).
Mayurbhanj reported 485 new cases, followed by Sundergarh, which reported 477 new cases, Puri, with 475 cases, and Angul, with 468. In Dhenkanal district, 451 persons tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
Rayagada (292), Jagatsinghpur (269), Balasore (240), Nayagarh (223), and Kendrapara (210) are the districts with fewer than 300 cases.
Nuapada (34), Kandhamal (95), Jharsuguda (53), Ganjam (65), Gajapati (80), and Deogarh (81) are among the districts with less than 100 daily infections.
