Odisha To Take Up Vulnerability Study To Deal With Climate Crisis

by Soumyashree Mishra

There is no doubt that climate change and climate-related disasters present a major challenge in Odisha. Odisha’s location on the east coast of India and its climate have meant that the state was at risk of many dangers, in particular, hurricanes, droughts and floods. After the Independence less importance has been given to the state as well as the development strategies of the state. In the wake of various disasters each year, Odisha will soon conduct a Survey in various agricultural areas to develop climate-focused schemes and actions set out under the state action plan for climate change in 2021-30. Odisha will be the first coastal province in the country to take this risk study under the National wide Mission on Strategic Information for Local weather change (NMSKCC).
The study will be conducted in each small and nearly large phase in stages where risk-taking and hazardous design of all regions in the first phase are possible. Government officials have received approval from the Science and Technology department, the Indian authorities for conducting research. About 35 different indicators from the field of environment, socioeconomic, health etc. will be subjected to the VARA study. These indicators will be helpful in verifying intelligent rainfall statistics for the region, sky, BPL population and heatwave. As soon as the details of these indicators are made and their impact factors are known, insurance policies, plans and schemes can be redesigned depending on the state of action in the area of climate change. Authorities said the risk assessment would be done by reducing global climate models with the help of research institutes and organizations such as the Odisha state Disaster Management Authority and the Odisha Remote Space Application.
