Odisha on Thursday logged 42 deaths due to Covid-19, the highest single-day death toll during the pandemic, bringing the total death toll to 2873.
Sundargarh logged the newest deaths, with five, followed by Cuttack and Kalahandi, each with four death cases. Boudh, Jharsuguda, and Khordha have all logged three fatalities.
The state has also reported 8839 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 790970. In the last 24 hours, 4948 cases have been reported from quarantine centres and 3891 cases are reported as local infections.
In terms of daily infections, Khordha is once again at the top of the list. The district has reported 1235 new cases in the last day, followed by Cuttack with 769 new positive cases. At the same time, Mayurbhanj recorded 583 new cases, followed by Dhenkanal with 510, Jajpur with 493, and Puri with 438.
With the recovery of 10594 patients in a single day, the total number of cases recovered has risen to 702621.Meanwhile, active cases have dropped to 85423 as now the number of recoveries has surpassed the number of infections, which brings a sense of relief among the citizens of Odisha.
