Even as residents in various areas of Odisha continue to recover from the devastation wrought by last week’s torrential rains, their woes are likely to be exacerbated by the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) issuing a new warning for another bout of heavy rain.

On September 25, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the east-central and adjacent northeast of the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weatherman issued a yellow warning for 12 districts along the north coast, predicting light to heavy rain.

“A new spell of heavy rainfall is predicted in Odisha from September 26 under its influence,” stated Umashankar Das, Senior Scientist, IMD, Odisha.

The monsoon trough at means sea level is presently traveling across Bikaner, Kota, Gaya, Kolkata, and south-eastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal, according to the most recent meteorological data.

The present cyclonic circulation, which was previously located over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjacent parts of the north Odisha-West Bengal-Bangladesh coastlines, has now moved to the Gangetic West Bengal and its environs.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for the next few days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 20.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 21.09.2021) Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of North Odisha, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.09.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 22.09.2021) Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
