Pranaya, brother to late MLA Pradeep Maharathy succumbed to Covid-19 on Sunday morning.
The 64-year-old was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after he tested positive for coronavirus.
He died on Sunday morning due to Covid complications as informed by his son Sakya Pratap Maharathy.
Last year Pradeep Maharathy tested positive for the infection on September 14, 2021, and was admitted to a designated COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
He was discharged after testing negative for the virus after a few days. However, he was again admitted to SUM after developing post-Covid-19 complications due to underlying diseases. His condition worsened and was soon pronounced dead on October 4th, 2020.
Raghunath Mohapatra (78), a former Rajya Sabha member an eminent sculptor who was also awarded Padma Vibhusan, died at Bhubaneswar AIIMS on May 9 while undergoing treatment for Covid-19.
Raghunath’s younger son, Prasanta Mohapatra (47), a former captain of Odisha’s cricket team and a match referee for the Board of Control for Cricket in India succumbed to the infection at AIIMS on May 19, 2021.
The sculptor’s eldest son Jashobanta Mohapatra, who was the last male in the family, also died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar the next day.
