Ace sprinter Dutee Chand on Monday broke her own national record by clocking 11.17 seconds in 100-meter sprint heats at the National Athletics Grand Prix in Patiala. However, she missed out on Tokyo Olympic’s spot by a whisker, which was 11.15 seconds.
Dutee covered a distance of 100m in an impressive 11.17 seconds – a time unheard of in Indian athletics. Dutee, though, will have one more opportunity to earn the direct qualification to the Olympics before the qualification period ends on 29th June 2021, when she takes the field during the Inter-State National Athletics Championship on 25th June 2021.
Meanwhile, Shot Putter Tajinder Pal Singh crossed the Olympic Qualification mark with a throw of 21.49m and broke his own National Record. He was able to do it twice with another throw of 21.28 m.
