Department of Justice endorses ‘Legal Literacy & Legal Awareness

Cuttack, 19th April 2022:  Taking forward the Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice (DISHA) scheme which is aimed at enabling the vulnerable sections of society to have access to information of their legal rights, entitlements and creating better legal awareness to make justice delivery system citizen-centric, Department of Justice (DoJ) in association with National Law University Odisha, Cuttack and the implementing partner Shadow Advertising & Communications Pvt Ltd, has successfully conducted a workshop on ‘State Level Consultation on Legal Literacy & Legal Awareness’ here on Monday at NLUO conference hall .

The panel was chaired by eminent experts in the legal space including  Ms Sneha Sharma, Program Manager, Access to Justice, Department of Justice, GoI ; Professor Ved Kumari, Vice Chancellor, NLUO; Dr Yogesh Pratap Singh, Registrar, NLUO; Dr Kuntirani Padhan, Asst Professor of NLUO, Director, Centre for Access to Justice; Ms Nikita Pattajoshi, Asst Professor of Law, NLUO; Mr Biranchi Padhy, Nyaya Mitra, Cuttack; Mr Dhiraj Behera, Program Coordinator, Shadow Advertising & Communications Pvt Ltd;  and Officials from CSC & lawyers.

Earlier, Department of Justice (DoJ) has launched comprehensive, holistic, integrated and systemic solution on access to justice at pan India level through DISHA being implemented from 2021-26. All the Access to Justice Programmes such as TELE law, Naya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal services), Naya Mitra and Legal Literacy & Legal Awareness have been merged under DISHA scheme and up-scaled to all India level.

Aimed at implementing pro bono legal services across the country, a first of its kind Pro Bono club under the DISHA scheme was also inaugurated during the workshop. Constituted of several stakeholders in Legal and law space, the Pro Bono Club will act as a voluntary facilitator of legal services to the public who vulnerably seem to be in a legal blind spot of the society.

Around 50 stakeholders from several fields connected to legal services participated in the event where National Law University Odisha, Cuttack officially joined the Department of Justice for the Pro Bono Club Scheme Services. Shadow advertising and communications PVT LTD is their partnered and implementing agency to carry out Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness campaigns across the state of ODISHA.
