For the second day in a row, Odisha saw a significant drop in Covid-19 cases, with the state registering 7,216 new infections in the last 24 hours. However, the escalating number of fatalities continued unabated. During this time, the state recorded 33 causalities, bringing the overall death toll to 2651.
Angul district reported the most death cases, with five, while Sundargarh had four. In the previous 24 hours, Covid has claimed three lives in Boudh, Khordha, Kalahandi, and Keonjhar.
Similarly, during same time period, two deaths were reported in the districts of Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Koraput, and Rayagada. In Dhenkanal and Nabarangapur, one patient succumbed to the virus.
4041 new infections have been reported in quarantine centres, while 3,175 infections have been reported among local contacts.
Cuttack reported the most positives detected in the last 24 hours, with 1,091 infections, out of all the districts. With 809 cases, it was followed by Khordha. Dhenkanal reported 428 cases, while Kendrapara reported 487. The number of positives in Angul dropped dramatically, with the district reporting only 409 cases. 331, 246 and 220 cases were reported in Bargarh, Bhadrak, and Koraput, respectively. Balasore reported 215 cases, while Jagatsinghpur reported 183.
The overall number of positive cases in the state now stands at 7,39,955, including 1,02,072 active cases. In the previous 24 hours, there have been 11,551 new recoveries reported. With this the total number of people recovered has reached the mark of 6,35,179.
