The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued a rainfall and wind alert for many Odisha districts in anticipation of Cyclone ‘Jawad’ over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to reach the north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts by the morning of December 4.
Rainfall activities will begin under its influence on December 3 evening/night, according to the forecast.
December 3: Heavy rain is expected in isolated areas across the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur.
December 4: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in a few locations across the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Jajpur, with really heavy precipitation in one or two spots across Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur.
December 5: Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to persist across the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj.
On December 2nd, squally winds gusted to 70 kmph over the southeast and neighbouring east central Bay of Bengal. Gale winds of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph are expected to prevail over the central Bay of Bengal beginning in the early morning of December 3rd and gradually increasing to 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over the northwest & adjoining west central Bay of Bengal beginning in the morning of December 4th for the next 24 hours.
Squally winds of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are expected to begin along and off the North Andhra Pradesh–Odisha coast at midnight on December 3rd and progressively develop to 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph by the afternoon of December 4th during the next 12 hours.
