The capital of each state is a strong indicator of development in that state. A new report released by the Centre of Science and Environment has reinstated the fact that capitals are indeed the most liveable cities in India.
According to Ease of Living Index 2020, Bhubaneswar ranks 4th on the list, above Mumbai, Delhi and Bhopal.
Bengaluru has been deemed as the most liveable city according to the government’s Ease of Living Index released on Thursday.
The Ease of Living Index, according to the government, is an assessment tool that evaluates the quality of life and the impact of various initiatives for urban development. More than 32 lakh people across 111 cities participated in a ‘Citizen Perception Survey’, holding a weightage of 30 per cent.
To determine the score on the ease of living index, 4 parameters were used which included-
- Quality of life
- Economic ability
- Citizen’s perception
The cities were scored given on these parameters out of 100. Bhubaneswar received a whooping 94.8 citizen score with Jaipur coming in 2nd with 87.1
Unfortunately, the capital of India, Delhi received a score between 50-60 in Quality of life, economic ability, sustainability and 69.4 in citizen score.
This is a continuation of the survey, originally launched in 2018. The current index witnessed a lot of change from that of last year, the most apparent being the addition of citizen’s perception to establish the liveability of the cities.
